FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

The Khyber Makes Tracks
Project considers travel and collaboration
Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada – July 29, 2010
The Khyber Arts Society is proud to present Making Tracks, an exciting cross-disciplinary project made possible in collaboration with Nova Scotia Tourism Heritage and Culture and VIA Rail. Starting this July and running until the end of the summer, an exhibition of 13 train travel-inspired video shorts will screen aboard “The Ocean” train between Halifax and Montreal. Submissions from across Canada and around the world address voyage, temporal space, and locomotion. In addition, the reel can be seen in VIA Lounges in both participating cities and will be available in artist-run centres and video art organizations across the country.

To compliment the onboard exhibition, the Khyber has launched makingtracks.ca, a web-based literary contest that invites train-inspired short stories, essays, poems and songs. Makingtracks.ca provides information about the onboard show and serve as a forum for traveler’s responses; building a collaborative venue for train-travel inspired work. Every entry is tagged according to theme and format, allowing visitors to explore the website organically. Each new visit is a new journey; a new opportunity to learn and share that reflects the unique relationships that can emerge when travelers opt for the “scenic route.”
